The French 19th century is revolutionary. The industrial boom, transport that abolishes distances, the proliferation of genres make realize at this time of our history a large permanent gap. From classicism to avant-gardes, from romantics to naturalists, from academics to impressionists, it is an inexhaustible source of inspiration and the antechamber of the disorders and hopes of our contemporary era. 

I wanted my lectures to reflect this French society which is being built, enriched, fractured and renewed. Share with me the intimate universe of these characters who marked their time, not in the manner of a spectator, but like a friend who is invited to his table, in the midst of his family...
